NICTD Advances Railcar, Track Projects

The Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District’s (NICTD) Board of Directors has approved the lease of 26 bi-level EMUs from Metra to boost capacity on the South Shore Line as it advances two expansion projects that, once online, will add 26 trains per day to the schedule.

Metra hits stride with fleet overhaul

Metra, Chicagoland’s regional passenger rail service provider, says it is just more than halfway through a $115 million program to overhaul a total of 176 rail cars (79 cab cars and 97 trailer cars) originally built by Amerail between 1995 and 1998.
