Innovative Construction Group, LLC is receiving a $250,000 grant from NCRR Invests, the North Carolina Railroad Company’s (NCRR) economic development arm, to help develop a new manufacturing facility in Siler City, N.C., to be served by Norfolk Southern (NS).

Based in Jacksonville, Fla., Innovative Construction Group serves builders of single-family, multi-family, and commercial construction projects, providing design services, manufactured wall panels, roof trusses and floor systems; it also offers on-site installation to provide a full-frame shell construction process.

The company, a subsidiary of PulteGroup Inc., will boost manufacturing capacity with the new North Carolina facility; it already has plants in Green Cove Springs, Fla., and Florence, S.C. NCRR’s grant will provide for the design and construction of a rail spur, and once the site is active, rail activity is expected to increase by a minimum of 75 railcars per year, NCRR reported April 24.

The project will amount to an estimated $39.8 million in investment to the region while generating approximately 150 new production, woodworking, logistics, and maintenance jobs with an average annual wage of $52,949, according to NCRR. Other project partners are NS, North Carolina Department of Commerce, Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina, North Carolina General Assembly, North Carolina Community College System, North Carolina Department of Transportation, Commerce’s Division of Workforce Solutions, Duke Energy, Chatham County, Town of Siler City, and Chatham Economic Development Corporation.

“NCRR is proud to play a role in bringing this new facility to North Carolina,” NCRR President and CEO Carl Warren said. “The rail spur will enable Innovative Construction Group to make large shipments effectively and efficiently to and from the facility. This investment not only solidifies our commitment to innovation and progress but also signals a new era of job creation and prosperity for our rural communities.”

In related developments, NCRR recently invested in Siemens Energy’s Charlotte manufacturing facility expansion and launched two economic development programs, as well as flagging and safety services.
