UP Launches Mexico-Southeastern U.S. Domestic Intermodal Service
Written by Carolina Worrell, Senior EditorUnion Pacific (UP) announced that it is introducing a new intermodal service connecting rapidly growing industrial markets in Mexico to areas of high demand in the Southeastern U.S. via Memphis, Tenn.
According to a customer advisory issued on Wednesday by UP, the Class I railroad offers service originating on Ferromex at both Monterrey and Silo, moving through UP’s border crossing at Eagle Pass, Tex. (Piedras Negras, Mexico), to points in the following (see map above):
- Atlanta, Ga. (Norfolk Southern Inman ramp)
- Central Florida ILC (CSX)
- Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. (Norfolk Southern/Florida East Coast Railway)
- Ft. Pierce, Fla. (Norfolk Southern/Florida East Coast Railway)
- Jacksonville, Fla. (CSX or Norfolk Southern)
- Miami, Fla. (Norfolk Southern/Florida East Coast Railway)
- Titusville, Fla. (Norfolk Southern/Florida East Coast Railway)
“In tandem with our diverse customer base, including our private asset and rail container channel partners, this new service introduces the largest influx of intermodal capacity for the Southeastern U.S. market out of Mexico,” said UP. “It also reinforces Union Pacific’s steadfast commitment to serving Mexico markets, helps take trucks off congested highways, and offers customers a complete transportation solution for business traversing this key trade corridor.”
Falcon Premium connects CN origin points within Canada, and at Detroit, to UP at two locations via CN’s former Elgin, Joliet & Eastern Chicago bypass, then to GMXT Mexican terminals at Monterrey and Silao, through Eagle Pass.
Eagle Premium serves Mexico, Chicago, the West Coast, and eastern U.S. points, including Detroit, Mich., and Louisville, Ky.
