CN is part of a documentary film series that recognizes the United Nation’s 100th anniversary in 2045 and aims “to inspire businesses and people to take collective action to ensure a better future for all.”
The approximately six-minute film (watch below) highlights the Class I railroad’s:
- Sustainability efforts, such as its use of Trip Optimizer (Wabtec), Horse Power Tonnage Analyzer, and Positive Train Control, and its project with Progress Rail and Chevron’s Renewable Energy Group to test high-level renewable fuel blends.
- Partnership with Indigenous communities.
“For more than 100 years, CN has been powering and growing the North American economy and we intend to be here, delivering responsibly, for centuries to come,” CN President and CEO Tracey Robinson said during railroad’s June 2 announcement of the film’s release.
Robinson was one of seven CN railroaders featured in the documentary. The others were: Senior Vice President and Chief Stakeholder Relations Officer Janet Drysdale (a 2020 Railway Age Women in Rail honoree); Vice President, Petroleum and Chemicals Buck Rogers (who recently joined the Surface Transportation Board’s Railroad-Shipper Transportation Advisory Council); Vice President Mechanical Mark Grubbs; Manager Mechanical Engineering Dilani Abeywickrama; locomotive engineer Martin Simane; and Officer, Training and Development Benjamin Baber.
“CN is proud to have been to first railroad in North America to issue a sustainability report aligned to global reporting standards,” Drysdale said in the documentary. “We’re really proud of being the first North American railway and amongst the first hundred companies globally to set a science-based target, and to be the first North American railway to commit to setting a net zero 2050 target.”
Among the other companies profiled by TBD Media in its latest installment of Vision 2045 films are Inogen Alliance and Globe Group. Canadian Pacific, prior to its merger with Kansas City Southern, was also profiled in an earlier film series release.
