March was the third consecutive month of growth for the Georgia Ports Authority (GPA), with rail volumes up 22%. Also, ITS Logistics releases its April forecast, reporting that the collapse of Baltimore Key Bridge has resulted in a “‘severe’ rating for Atlantic Ocean Region.”

Jonathan Daniels will head the Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Port Administration (MDOT/MPA), effective Feb. 5. Also, Adam Mercer is joining HDR as Construction Field Services Director; and Norfolk Southern’s (NS) Ed Elkins is tapped as Vice Chair of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce’s 2024 Executive Committee.

Howard Street Tunnel Expansion Project Launches

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan led public- and private-sector leaders in breaking ground on the $466 million Howard Street Tunnel expansion project, which will reconstruct the 126-year-old freight rail tunnel to accommodate double-stack container trains to and from the Helen Delich Bentley Port of Baltimore.
