African-American Career World Magazine (AACWM) features CSX’s Carl Walker in the summer/fall issue. Also, PMA Consultants appoints Kam Shadan as Executive Director of its new National Transit & Rail Practice.

CSX Assistant Vice President of Communications, Signals and Positive Train Control Carl Walker is part of a “Spotlight on Veterans” special report in AACWM. In addition to covering his journey from U.S. Navy officer to 23-year-veteran railroader, the “Heroes of Import” article cites CSX as “recognizing the value of military service.”

“CSX creates a workplace culture that makes transitioning from military service to railroad service a natural change at every level from entry to executive management,” Walker said in the article, which noted that nearly one in five CSX employees has served in the military in some capacity.

“I regard my background in the military as a significant factor in preparing me for the many positions I have held throughout my career,” said Walker, who is also Executive sponsor of CSX’s African-American Business Resource Group. “The experience I gained on the railroad, coupled with my military service, allowed me to develop important leadership skills that help my guide others as an organizational leader.”

As Executive Director of PMA Consultants’ new National Transit & Rail Practice, Kam Shadan will help grow and serve transit and rail clients nationwide, including PMA’s work within the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Project Management Oversight Program, providing program management and owner representation services.

Previously, he held the positions of Vice President for Gannett Fleming and Capital Programs Manager for the city and county of San Francisco, Calif. According to PMA, Shadan has built and led a team of more than 20 program professionals to serve FTA with oversight of rail projects at Sound Transit (Seattle, Wash.), Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation District of Oregon, Sacramento (Calif.) Regional Transit District, San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit District, Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority, and Los Angeles Country Metropolitan Transportation Authority. Additionally, Shadan is the lead author of the FTA-published Construction Project Management Handbook.

Based in San Francisco, Shadan is a member of PMA’s leadership team in the western United States and Canada.
