Written by William C. Vantuono, Editor-in-Chief

Behind-the-scenes tours of Plasser American’s manufacturing facility and Norfolk Southern’s Lambert Terminal rail port terminal are two highlights of next month’s League of Railway Industry Women Spring Conference in Norfolk, Va., May 15-17.

The LRIW conference will also feature special presentations from Railway Supply Institute President Tom Simpson and several Norfolk Southern Corp. executives, including a May 16 business dinner keynote address by Deborah Butler (pictured), Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer. Butler joined NS in 1978 as a customer account auditor and served in a variety of operations and customer service capacities before being named in 2007 to her current role as CIO and Executive Vice President of Planning.

The conference kicks off on May 15 with a welcome reception at the Sheraton Norfolk Waterside. The schedule for May 16 includes several presentations, including one from Operation Lifesaver, the business dinner, and the Lambert Terminal and Plasser American tours. Plasser American, based in nearby Chesapeake, Va., is a leading manufacturer of production tampers, dynamic track stabilizers, ballast regulators, and other high performance maintenance-of-way machinery.

The conference concludes on May 17 with the LRIW’s annual business and a board of directors meetings.
