Amsted Digital Solutions (ADS) has purchased the assets of Calgary-based GeoMetrix Rail Logistics, Inc.

Amsted said the acquisition is based on “creating a seamless and single platform” for railcar fleet management.

GeoMetrix software includes features such as bills of lading creation, track-and-trace capability, waybill reporting, rail yard management, ERP integrations, mechanical planning and analysis tools, and lease management. “Customers can enhance their experience by leveraging ADS’s onboard GPS technology,” according to ADS, an Amsted Rail subsidiary based in Chicago. “Out-of-the-box features include geofence alerting such as dwell in transit, arrival and departure, high impact detection and out-of-route.”

Jim Benedict, Founder of GeoMetrix, is now a member of the ADS Ideation Team. Jason Benedict, former GeoMetrix President, is serving as Vice President-Digital Sales for ADS.

“We are excited about the addition of the well-respected GeoMetrix team and the software solution they provide,” ADS Chief Operations Officer Brad Myers said. “GeoMetrix is a strong part of our vision and together we will shape the next evolution of fleet management leveraging AI technology and ADS’ Machine Learning Team.”

“Technology changes rapidly, and those companies that create an efficient and streamlined structure to harness digital technologies will be the leaders in delivering real value quickly to their customers,” Jim Benedict said. “That is what we will do together.”

Slated for release this year is Dynamic ETA capability, which “leverages machine learning and has the option to be enhanced with the use of the ADS onboard GPS technology,” according to ADS. The company also reported that it is launching the Load Status feature, which “doesn’t require the use of a secondary sensor to determine whether a railcar is empty or loaded.” In early 2022, ADS said it will release BogieIQ™.
