Approximately 70 maintenance of way employees from Genesee & Wyoming (G&W) Railroad Engineering Services voted April 13 to join the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employes Division (BMWED). The new members are the first of G&W's mobile gangs to join the Brotherhood.

The newest members are three tie gangs and two bridge and building crews who work throughout the G&W’s vast track system, according to a release.

Employees approved BMWED representation by an overwhelming 8-to-1 margin in a vote count conducted by the National Mediation Board on April 13.

“The entirety of the BMWED welcomes our newest Brothers and Sisters on G&W RES and applaud them for recognizing the immense value and importance of collective action and solidarity,” BMWED said. “The next step is a collectively bargained agreement that improves the working lives, wages and benefits for these Brothers and Sisters.”
