OptiFuel Systems will be showcasing its OptiFuel Total-Zero™ Locomotive at the 2024 ASLRRA Annual Conference & Exhibition in Kansas City, March 24 to 26. The linehaul locomotive is described as “the industry’s first modular, customizable, ZE (zero-emission) locomotive. Customers can select from RNG (renewable natural gas), hydrogen, or BE (battery-electric) power modules, with RNG delivering an unmatched combination of price and performance advantages.”

RNG, derived from 100% existing organic waste streams in the U.S., “stands out as the sole turnkey renewable fuel with negative carbon intensity, ensuring cost-effectiveness and easy accessibility through the existing natural gas pipeline infrastructure along U.S. railroad rights-of-ways,” OptiFuel said, adding that the company “has spearheaded the development of innovative technologies that bring RNG locomotives to life. Specializing in hard-to-abate transportation and industrial markets, including rail, marine, and power generation, OptiFuel’s Total-Zero™ Locomotives offer diesel-like power with zero emissions, zero NOx (oxides of nitrogen) and PM (particulate matter) criteria emissions, negative carbon intensity, and all without sacrificing power.”

Key features of the OptiFuel Total-Zero™ Locomotives include “diesel-like power with zero emissions that improve fuel cost and operating range by 25%; advanced scalable and modular design; zero NOx and PM criteria emissions and negative carbon intensity; seamless fleet transitions at an affordable cost, without disruption to operations; turnkey refueling solutions from delivery services to fuel stations; and grant support assistance for fleet transition.”

“At OptiFuel, our mission is to empower U.S. railroads to optimize rail operations for the generation ahead, creating a highly efficient, cost-effective and competitive rail network that benefits the environment and the industry’s bottom line,” said Cynthia Heinz, who manages investor relations and corporate development for OptiFuel. “We are committed to positioning the U.S. rail industry as a leader in decarbonization efforts, enabling them to transition to zero emission fleets well before the 2050 target.”

OptiFuel Systems invites ASLRRA attendees to visit Booth 1110, where OptiFuel CEO and President Scott Myers and other key team members will be available.
