OptiFuel Lands Locomotive Repower Project in Argentina

Beaufort, S.C.-based OptiFuel Systems has signed a collaboration agreement with the Argentina Ministry of Transportation through Ferrocarriles Argentinos Sociedad del Estado (F.A.S.E.) to upgrade 400 switcher and line-haul freight locomotives from diesel to compressed natural gas (CNG) and/or renewable natural gas (RNG) power.

Southern California Gas Company (SoCalGas) is providing $500,000 to help develop Sierra Northern Railway’s hydrogen fuel cell (HFC)-powered switcher. Also, Phoenix Contact and ClearBlade have partnered on an Industrial Internet of Things (IoT) solution for the rail, oil and gas, energy and industrial markets.

Woodland, Calif.-based Sierra Northern Railway (SERA) will build a hydrogen fuel cell (HFC)-powered switcher under a nearly $4 million grant from the California Energy Commission (CEC).
