Canadian Pacific Kansas City launched its Final Spike Anniversary Steam Tour on April 24 in Calgary, and welcomed aboard Alberta Premier Danielle Smith for part of the first leg as the 2816 left Calgary and moved across southeast Alberta.

“What an exciting morning it was!,” Smith said on X (formerly Twitter). ”I had the pleasure to ride the fully restored Empress 2816 steam locomotive from Calgary to Suffield. We enjoyed the breathtaking views of our beautiful province while celebrating the first anniversary of Canadian Pacific’s merger with Kansas City Southern, which connects Canada, the U.S. and Mexico with a single-line railway. I am looking forward to many more exciting transportation projects across Alberta.”
