Transport Canada Allocates C$5.4MM for Rail Resiliency

Transport Canada is distributing up to C$5.4 million to 20 infrastructure projects country-wide that it says will make railroads “more resilient to extreme weather risks.”

Ontario Advances Northlander Service Revival

The Ontario government on Dec. 15 reported that it will spend C$139.5 million to purchase three Siemens Mobility Ltd. trainsets as part of its plan to reinstate Northlander passenger rail service between Toronto and Timmins by the mid-2020s.

Ontario Northland tweeted on April 10: “We are so pleased to share that the province of Ontario has released of an Updated Initial Business Case for the return of passenger rail to Northeastern Ontario! @fordnation @C_Mulroney” The Northlander Passenger Train—which ran between Cochrane, North Bay and Toronto—was discontinued in 2012, and is now under study for reinstatement.
