For Port NOLA, Service Restoration Under Way

The Port of New Orleans’ (Port NOLA) Napoleon Avenue Container Terminal is resuming service Sept. 7, following the Port’s restoration of limited cargo and vessel operations beginning Sept. 2—just four days after Hurricane Ida made landfall in southeast Louisiana as a category 4 storm.

Port NOLA’s Container Terminal Project Progresses

The Request for Proposal (RFP) process is now under way for program management/program controls services for the development of Port of New Orleans’ (Port NOLA) Louisiana International Terminal.

Port NOLA’s new $1.5 billion multimodal container terminal in St. Bernard Parish, La., is slated to serve the largest container vessels calling in the Gulf of Mexico, and will provide access to six Class I railroads (BNSF, CN, CSX, Kansas City Southern, Norfolk Southern and Union Pacific) and interstate highways.

Tennessee Pass Revival: It’s Complicated

Colorado, Midland & Pacific Railway Co. (CMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Rio Grande Pacific Corp. (RGPC), has entered into an agreement to lease the majority (163.1 miles) of the Tennessee Pass rail line between Parkdale and Sage, Colo., from Union Pacific. The short line has also submitted a filing to the Surface Transportation Board for common-carrier authority to operate the line.

New Orleans & Gulf Coast, Railway Age’s 2016 Short Line Railroad of the Year, will use an $8.2 million grant from the U.S. DOT for rehabilitation projects along its 32-mile line.

Louisiana, Ohio Short Lines Receiving Infrastructure Investment Boost
