Industry readies for Railroad Day on Capitol Hill

Written by Douglas John Bowen

Railroad Day on Capitol Hill is Thursday, March 8, and the Railway Supply Institute is urging RSI members, and indeed all pro-rail interests, to "help educate policymakers on the positive impact our job-producing industry has on the U.S. economy."

Registration and schedule information is available through the American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association (ASLRRA) website. Specific supplier-related concerns or other RSI matters can be addressed by contacting RSI Assistant Vice President, Government Affairs Nicole Brewin, Tel.: 202-347-4664; Email: [email protected].

“RSI and other railroad association representatives attend scores of meetings on Capitol Hill each year, but when our company representatives come to Washington they put a real face and a real story on issues that affect suppliers,” RSI says. “You will be set up in meetings with lawmakers from your state(s), and, as a constituent, you can describe how any proposed new laws and/or regulations will affect your business and your ability to compete. This is also a great opportunity to network with your rail industry colleagues.

The day will start with a morning briefing on relevant legislative issues, followed by meetings with elected officials and their staffs, and ending with a reception and dinner at the Renaissance Washington D.C. Downtown Hotel at 999 Ninth Street, NW.
