RAILWAY INTERCHANGE 2023: Boxcar doors are vulnerable to damage during typical loading and unloading cycles with forklift trucks. Such damage can render them difficult or even impossible to unlock and open, or close and lock. The Greenbrier Companies has developed a boxcar door constructed of Advanced High Strength Steel with a degree of elasticity that can withstand impact and return to its original shape. Greenbrier Senior Vice President International Engineering and Product Development Peter Jones and Product Development Director Tyler Chambers discuss development and field service testing with Norfolk Southern for these doors as applied to 60-foot, Plate F TTX T-Box cars with Railway Age Editor-in-Chief William C. Vantuono.
