RailComm aids Indiana Railroad facility

Fairport, N.Y.-based RailComm said Monday it has been selected to provide a wireless remote control derail system for Indiana Railroad Co.'s facility in Jasonville, Ind.

The power derails will be remotely controlled by two strategically located control panels located at each end of the shop. The panels will have LED indicators to show the current position of the derail device and push buttons will be used to apply and remove the derails.

RailComm’s 2.4 GHz Spread Spectrum RADiANT™ data radios will be used to establish wireless communications networks to link the derail and control panel locations. Solar power will be used and the associated hardware will be sized based upon the location of the derails and their expected usage.

Upon activation, tracks are safely and immediately protected by the remote control of the appropriate derail device with associated blue strobe light warning indication.
