Burns Engineering Inc. promoted Derek Brown to Director, Washington, D.C. Region. Also, Mitsui Rail Capital appointed Bryan F. Vaughan Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Business Development.
At Burns, Derek Brown is overseeing the expansion of multidisciplinary engineering services for railroad, transit agency, aviation and institutional clients throughout the Greater Washington, D.C., region. Recent projects include new fiber communications infrastructure, traction power upgrades, utility coordination, and train control systems for Amtrak and the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA), including the Potomac Yard Metro Station.
Burns joined Burns in 2017 as a project manager. He has also served Ross & Baruzzini; Macro Corporation, A KEMA Company; Harris Corporation; and the Sierra Technologies Division of the LTV Missiles and Electronics Group.
“Derek offers extensive experience rolling out large-scale technology upgrades for federal, state and local government agencies,” Burns said. “An expert in future-proofed solutions that deliver attractive financial returns, Derek applies his background in capital planning to guide clients throughout the design and integration challenges of emerging technologies for controls, electric traction, fiber and wireless communications, and facility-management solutions.”
Bryan F. Vaughan brings more than 30 years of experience in transportation and logistics to his Vice President role at railcar lessor Mitsui Rail Capital. Most recently, he was Commercial Leader of Sales and Marketing for Railcar Leasing at VTG Rail. Vaughan has also served CN and GE Capital Rail Services as International Director of Sales and Marketing and Vice President of Sales and Marketing, respectively. He is on the Executive Board of the Midwest Association of Rail Shippers (MARS) and was a recent President of the Traffic Club of Chicago.
