Pacific Harbor Line extends reach

Pacific Harbor Line said late Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2014 it is now "serving customers located in three industrial areas near the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, linked to a 10-mile industrial spur owned by Union Pacific Railroad."

Wilmington, Calif.-based PHL currently provides service to seven customers, six days a week. Located on the Patata, Reyes and Carson industrial leads, customers include Cargill Milling Inc., PCCR USA, Contractor’s Cargo, International Paper, Epsilon Plastics, Grow More Inc. and Konoike-Pacific cold storage. Service began July 1, PHL said.

“Union Pacific asked us to switch the line on their behalf,” said PHL President Otis Cliatt II. “The intent was to extend PHL’s switching franchise to these new customers, bringing them the same efficiency and customer focus that we’ve provided to other shippers in the LA-Long Beach terminal area.”

PHL began operations in 1998 providing railroad switching services to the Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles and also dispatching all BNSF and Union Pacific trains within the ports. PHL maintains 75 miles of track owned by the two ports and serves nine on-dock intermodal terminals, plus numerous carload customers.
