Company employees “will join forces with local residents and businesses to volunteer as “Tide Guides” assisting riders with safety tips, handing out train schedules, and teaching them how to use the ticket terminals,” the company said.

INIT Director of Business Development Andreas Rakebrandt notes, “The celebration is personal, not only because the light rail is in our backyard, but because our passenger counting technology onboard The Tide will assist HRT with accurate ridership data and help provide the most efficient service for them and their passengers.”

INIT employees serving as "Tide Guides” will be wearing buttons that say, “Proud to have our technology onboard.”

Hampton Roads Transit and the city of Norfolk will launch ceremonial events this Thursday evening as part of a four-day celebration, including free LRT rides offered to the public during the weekend. Revenue service begins Monday, August 22.
