Amsted Rail ramps up wheel production capacity

Written by Carolina Worrell, Senior Editor

Amsted Rail is making a significant capital investment in its Griffin wheel facilities that will boost wheel capacity more than 10% across its five North American locations, the company announced June 24, 2015.

Completion of the project will allow the plans to readily flex annual capacity to meet the short-term increase in demand.

Jon Schumacher, Chief Operating Officer for Amsted Rail, indicated that the capital will allow Griffin wheel to fully implement the new technology that the engineering team has perfected over the past several years. The innovation increases yield and throughput at a slightly higher variable cost, and will handle any short-term demands on capacity required by the marketplace.

Implementation has already begun and will be completed at all facilities by early 2016.
