Amsted Rail agrees to acquire Amsted Rail-Faiveley brake components business

Amsted Rail announced Oct. 28 that it has entered into an agreement to acquire 100% ownership of the Amsted Rail-Faiveley brake component business for freight cars.

The acquisition by Amsted Rail will include brake components such as hand brakes, slack adjusters, empty load devices and ABU cylinders produced by Ellcon-National, which Faively Transport acquired in 2008.. In addition, Amsted Rail will continue to offer the plastic pellet gate product line.

We feel this acquisition will better position Amsted Rail to enhance our component systems, including new innovative designs for a more comprehensive railcar component system solution focusing on improved product performance and reliability,” said Gary Wagner, General Manager-Freight Brake Products, Amsted Rail. “Our component systems are engineered for optimum performance and increased life cycle savings. This acquisition provides Amsted Rail a greater platform to bring new and innovative value to our industry and our customers.”

Amsted Rail plans to continue producing brake components in a new location in the Greenville, S.C. area.
