Savage Acquires CWC’s Transloading Business

Utah-based Savage is expanding its transload network into the Pacific Northwest, with the purchase of Cascade Warehouse Company (CWC), which handles more than 3,000 railcars per year and operates transload and warehousing centers in Salem and Junction City, Ore., and Chehalis, Wash.

CWC, founded in 1958, offers multi-commodity transloading; lumber cutting and packaging; and storage solutions for building and industrial products, consumer goods, and packaging materials. Its Salem facility offers two warehouses with 100,000 square feet of storage and two transload yards with 10 acres of staging/unloading space; can handle 15 centerbeams and nine boxcars daily; provides access to BNSF and Union Pacific (UP); and includes on-site tanker/hopper storage. The Junction City facility offers 5,000 square feet of short-term warehousing/staging space on-site and a transload yard with 15 acres of staging/loading space; can handle 12 centerbeams daily; provides access to BNSF and UP; includes on-site tanker/hopper storage; and offers logistics management and local/national trucking services. The Chehalis facility offers on-site warehousing and short-term staging space and a transload yard with dual boxcar/centerbeam capabilities; can handle 15 railcars daily; provides access to BNSF and UP; can handle additional products upon prior consultation; and offers logistics management, drayage, and local/national trucking services.

Savage, which provides transportation, logistics, materials handling, and other industrial services, is said to move more than 22.8 million tons of products and to load more than 525,000 truckloads annually at the 50-plus transload terminals it operates across North America.

According to the company, the CWC acquisition will also provide “opportunities to connect origin forest-product shippers with destinations across North America where Savage operates.”
