The Jacksonville Port Terminal Railroad (JXPT) officially began services on March 8.

The 10-mile line provides service to Jacksonville Port Authority (Jaxport) customers Monday through Friday, and interchanges with Norfolk Southern and CSX.

JXPT is the 37th short line operated by Watco Cos., based in Pittsburg, Kans., and its first in Florida.

Four customers are being served by rail at Jaxport covering automobiles, chemicals, farm and food products, intermodal containers, and pulp and paper, Watco said in a release.

The company has five employees working at the port.

“We met with some customers after startup to get feedback and they were very pleased with the quality and timeliness of the service we provided,” said JXPT General Manager Tim Hurse. “Things went smoothly, without any hiccups, and our team is excited to be serving customers in Jacksonville.”
