CN on Nov. 8 announced that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Mississippi State Port Authority at Gulfport and Ports America establishing a new intermodal service. The trial run of the service will launch in the coming weeks.

According to CN, the goals of the MOU include “identification and development of a best practices vision through productivity improvements for the supply chain, and the collaboration in implementing those supply chain improvements to leverage and increase market share.”

“We are proud to be partnering with the Mississippi State Port Authority at Gulfport and Ports America to launch this new service,” said CN Vice President of Intermodal Dan Bresolin. “It will provide shippers with new Ocean connectivity options to move goods between the Gulf Coast, US Midwest and Canada. By working collaboratively with partners, CN will continue to maximize the use of its capacity in its southern network to accelerate sustainable, profitable growth.”

“This agreement is a great source of pride for us at Ports America,” said Ports America EVP and Chief Commercial Officer Rob Kusiciel. “By leveraging CN’s incredible reach and network into different points in North America, we will be offering our customers direct access to new markets and opportunities for business. This represents a significant step forward in our commitment to delivering world-class service to our customers and creating value for our stakeholders. We are excited to work with the Port of Gulfport and CN to provide seamless and efficient transportation solutions that will drive growth and strengthen our inland systems.”

“We are very excited to expand our relationship with Ports America to include CN,” said Port of Gulfport Executive Director and CEO Jon Nass. “This will further enable us to leverage our strategic advantages here at the Port of Gulfport. With CN being the industry leader in refrigerated service and the Port of Gulfport being one of the largest importers of green fruit in the U.S., we see this as a natural fit with great potential.”

CN recently announced via a LinkedIn post that the first train of its new intermodal service arrived at the Port of Gulfport early on Nov. 15.

“Through collaboration between CN and our partners at Ports America and at MSPA, we are proudly expanding Gulf Coast connectivity for our customers,” the Class I wrote in the post.
