Hungarian city orders Ganz-Skoda streetcars
Written by Douglas John BowenA Hungarian-Czech joint venture Ganz-Skoda Kozlekedesi has won a tender to supply 31 streetcars to Miskolc, Hungary, according to a spokesperson for the mayor of Miskolc.
The decision reportedly is being appealed by Beasain, Spain-based Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles (CAF), which also bid for the job. The challenge comes as Miskolc attempts to succeed in its fourth effort to secure a streetcar order. Three earlier attempts were nullified by Hungary’s Public Procurement Arbitration Board (KDB).
A renovation and Miskolc’s 9.6-kilometer (6-mile) tram line began in May 2010, along with a 1.5-kilometer (0.9-mile) expansion project, expected to be completed by year’s end.
