Funds flow to KC anti-streetcar forces

A political action committee opposed to continued streetcar development in Kansas City, Mo., SmartKC, has received $20,000 from Missourians for Responsible Government to continue their fight.

Local media report the SmartKC PAC received a check on June 6, 2014. SmartKC was founded on May 8, 2014, by attorney Sherry DeJanes.

DeJanes earlier failed to convince a Jackson County, Mo., judge to keep a streetcar question off the ballot of an upcoming August election. That election is the first of two required to approve proposed extensions of Kansas City’s initial 2.2-mile streetcar route, for which a groundbreaking ceremony was held last month.

Countering SmartKC’s efforts is a pro-streetcar committee, Connect KC, founded in 2013 by its treasurer and Helix Architecture founding principal Jay Tomlinson.
