Protran lands contract for Station Platform Intrusion Warning systems
Written by William C. Vantuono, Editor-in-ChiefProtran’s system, described as “the first of its kind,” can detect intruders or other emergency events and send warnings to an operational control center and to a train before it enters a station, in real time.
According to Protran Technology Vice President Shannon Bailey, “This system was developed in response to the FRA and FTA’s ‘most wanted list’ to minimize the time in which a warning can be sent to trains from an operational control center. Currently this could take greater than 10 minutes or more. In a situation such as a biological, chemical, or intruder attack, immediate response is crucial. The Protran system removes all delays and transmits to any train in real-time.”
