NS multi-state safety train tour under way

First responders in 23 cities from 15 states will benefit from free training with Norfolk Southern’s safety train during 2018, part of the railroad’s Operation Awareness & Response program, which provides first responders with training on how to safely respond to a potential rail incident.

NS 9-1-1 honors first responders

At Washington, D.C.’s Union Station, Norfolk Southern dedicated its latest commemorative locomotive, an SD60E painted in a vibrant red, white and black livery with gold accents and insignia recognizing police, fire, and emergency services, honoring first responders. Numbered 9-1-1, the locomotive will enter general revenue service on NS’s 22-state network.

AAR recognizes hazmat award recipients

The Association of American Railroads (AAR) has announced the 2014 recipients of the Holden-Proefrock Award, Non-Accident Release (NAR) Grand Slam Award, and Perfect Game Award. In addition, TRANSCAER® (Transportation Community Awareness and Emergency Response) announced its National Achievement Awards. The awards were presented at the 28th Annual AAR/BOE (Bureau of Explosives) Hazmat Seminar in Addison, Tex.

AAR, API collaborate on CBR first-responder safety course

The Association of American Railroads (AAR) and American Petroleum Institute (API) have collaborated on a new crude-by-rail (CBR) introductory safety course for first responders. This course is available free of charge to emergency response organizations and fire departments via the Transportation Community Awareness and Emergency Response (TRANSCAER®) program, of which railroads and oil companies are members.
