M1 Rail contract target: Dec. 1

Detroit’s M1 Rail public-private partnership says it expects to award a contract by Dec. 1, 2013 for six streetcars on its initial 3.2-mile route. Bids for the contract are due next Monday, Oct. 21.

Alameda, Calif.-based construction company Stacy and Witbeck Inc. on Tuesday, July 30, 2013, was awarded a contract to oversee implementation of Detroit’s M1 Rail streetcar line, winning out over four competitive bids. The amount of the contract has not yet been disclosed.

Feds (again) fund Detroil M-1 rail project

Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood on Friday announced Detroit’s M-1 Rail project will receive $25 million from the federal government. The planned streetcar line, at present set to run 3.3 miles, has a projected cost of $137 million.
