Kawasaki Rail Car USA, Inc. is currently assembling the prototype trainset of the Washington Area Metropolitan Area Transit Authority’s (WMATA) new 7000 Series Metrorail rapid transit cars in Kobe, Japan.

The balance of the 364-car order will be assembled at Kawasaki’s Lincoln, Neb., plant.

WMATA General Manager Richard Sarles recently visited Kobe to inspect the new rolling stock. The agency produced a video for its website in which Sarles takes Metrorail customers on a tour of the interior, spotlighting the many design and comfort improvements that have been made with respect to existing railcars.
