Ineco consortium to supervise Mexico City metro extension
Written by David Briginshaw, Consulting Editor, International Railway JournalA consortium of Ineco, Spain, its Mexican subsidiary Inecomex, Spain’s infrastructure manager Adif, and Cal y Mayor y Asociados, Mexico, have been awarded a contract to supervise the construction of an extension to Line 12 of the Mexico City metro.
The 2.5-mile extension will run from Mixcoac to Obervatorio, where it will connect with Line 1 and the 35.75-mile Mexico City-Toluca interurban passenger line, which is due to open in 2017. The extension will have two intermediate stations at Valentín Campa and Álvaro Obregón.
The initial 15.2-mile section of Line 12, which opened in October 2012, has 20 stations and runs from Mixcoac to Tláhuac. Line 12 is the second metro line in Mexico City to have conventional steel wheel/steel rail technology rather than rubber tires (like the Paris and Montreal metros).
