New crossover for The Tide in Norfolk
Written by Douglas John BowenHampton Roads Transit will add a new crossover on The Tide light rail transit system. To facilitate construction this weekend, LRT service will be suspended between Harbor Park and EVMC/Ft. Norfolk stations during construction the weekend of Feb. 4-5.
Construction will occur once regularly scheduled service ends at midnight, Friday, Feb. 3, and will continue throughout the weekend. Normal weekday LRT operations will resume at 6:00 a.m. Monday, Feb. 6.
HRT says the crossover will improve capacity and traffic flow.
The $318 million, 7.4-mile LRT line debuted last Aug. 19, with Siemens S70 LRT cars serving 11 stations in downtown Norfolk. The line averaged 4,009 riders during the week of Jan. 23-29.
