Rail Runner Express to expand weekend service

Shrugging off budget pressures and continued verbal attacks from New Mexico anti-rail partisans, New Mexico Rail Runner Express service will bolster its weekend schedule beginning Saturday, April 7.

Two trains will be added to both northbound and southbound Saturday schedules, with the first train of the day arriving in Santa Fee at 10:16 a.m., one hour earlier than at present, “allowing people more time to enjoy the Farmer’s Market and other morning events at the Santa Fe Railyard,” the operator says on its website.

A 9:00 p.m. departure from Santa Fe also has been added to the Saturday schedule.

“This new Saturday and Sunday Rail Runner schedule will provide a variety of service with enhanced arrival and departure times for our weekend riders,” said Dewey Cave, executive director for the Mid-Region Council of Governments.

The new weekend schedule “will remain in effect on a permanent basis, and will not change for the winter months,” Rail Runner Express said.
