Union Pacific, which with Ferromex and BNSF suffered a severe service disruption in December when U.S. Customs and Border Protection unnecessarily closed the U.S./Mexico rail bridges at Eagle Pass and El Paso, Tex., has added a Special Agent patrol at the border.

The patrol, a K-9 unit, allows UP agents “to cover more territory following the temporary closure of two gateways,” UP said. “We’ve implemented safety protocols to keep our officers safe, and we’re regularly sharing information with Customs & Border Protection representatives at the local level regarding the El Paso or Eagle Pass gateways. Both crossings are critical gateways for families, businesses and our customers on both sides of the border.”
