Arthur J. McGinnis, Jr., president of the Simmons-Boardman Publishing Corp., on Tuesday announced the appointment of Jonathan W. Chalon as associate publisher of the company’s Railway Division. The group includes Railway Age, Railway Track & Structures, and International Railway Journal.

Chalon on Jan. 1, 2012, will assume the position of publisher of the Railway Division. At that time current publisher Robert P. DeMarco, in keeping with his longstanding request for reduced responsibilities, will assume the title of Publisher Emeritus and will open a Simmons-Boardman office in Chapel Hill, N.C.

Chalon’s extensive background in publishing includes his recent service with the Corporate Executive Board as executive vice president, sales, Toolbox.com, and earlier positions with Penton Media as vice president, Entertainment Technology Division; Standard Media International as vice president and associate publisher of The Industry Standard; and Inc. Magazine as international advertising director.

The holder of numerous industry awards, Chalon served for four years as vice chairman of the Publishers Committee, American Business Media.

“Jon Chalon joins us at a critical time in the long history of our railwaypublications, of which the oldest, Railway Age, has been in business for 155 years,” said McGinnis. “Bob DeMarco is the latest in a series of outstanding leaders who have brought our magazines prosperously into the new age of railroading. With his experience not only in print publishing but in establishing and nurturing online ventures, Chalon is well-equipped to add new dimensions of service for our users and our customers.”
