R. J. Corman Railpower says short line Sierra Northern Railway (SERA) has awarded a contract for a GenSet locomotive kit. The purchase will be funded in part by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Targeted Air Shed Grant Program, R.J. Corman said.

“R. J. Corman Railpower looks forward to partnering with Sierra Northern employees to build an Ultra-Clean GenSet locomotive. In general, locomotive kit projects provide the perfect opportunity for our technology advantages to shine. Allowing customers to reduce overall product cost and be involved in learning about the technology upfront ensures the long lasting success of these types of projects,” said R. J. Corman Railpower Vice President Dave Malay.

After completion, the company will offer extended warranty, technical support, remote diagnostics, and on-site training for the kit locomotive.

Woodland, Calif.-based Sierra Northern Railway operates overapproximately 105 miles of right-of-way, interfacing with both Union Pacificand BNSF in northern California.
