As Transit Engineering Director based in Washington, D.C., Pat Porzillo will provide direction and oversight through all phases of transit projects at HDR, from planning through preliminary engineering, final design and construction to the initiation of service for light rail, subway, automated people movers, and commuter rail. He served most recently as the firm’s Principal Project Manager.

Porzillo has 37 years of experience in planning, design, construction, and maintenance and operations of transportation infrastructure. He has held the positions of Chief Engineer at Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority; Associate Vice President of Commuter Rail at Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County; Deputy Division Engineer at Amtrak; and Track, Bridge and Building Supervisor at Norfolk Southern. Additionally, he implemented infrastructure upgrades that enabled the Acela high-speed operation on Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor. As a project manager, Porzillo has led contracts valued at up to $1.5 billion across the U.S. and overseen teams of up to 1,000 employees.

Porzillo is a member of the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance of Way Association’s Ties and Fasteners Committee and the Rail Transit Committee. He is also a member of the American Public Transit Association’s Noise and Vibration Committee.

“Pat possesses deep technical knowledge combined with diverse public agency and consultant-led project experiences which are invaluable,” HDR Global Transit Director Matt Tucker said. “I look forward to collaborating with him as we partner with the transit industry to develop and implement infrastructure improvements that enhance the quality of life in communities.”

Separately, Lisa Patterson recently took on the role of Freight Rail Environmental Manager at HDR.

He has also served as Vice President, Business Development at Patriot Rail Company, Regional Leader at Vulcan Materials Company, and Vice President, Commercial at Watco. Williams holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Siena Heights University.

“With his extensive background in sales and marketing within the rail industry, we are confident that Ryan will play a pivotal role in driving the company’s expansion and enhancing customer engagement,” said Julie Mink, President of Forsyth, Mont.-based Tealinc, which partners with rail shippers on leasing, purchasing, and selling nearly every type of freight railcar, and provides rail transportation management services and consulting services.
