Paul Wiedefeld joins HDR as Northeast Region Transportation Director. And North Carolina Railroad Company (NCRR) appoints Chris Dillon as Vice President, Government Affairs.

Following 40 years of transportation industry service, most recently as General Manager and CEO of Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA), Paul Wiedefeld has taken on a new role: HDR’s Northeast Region Transportation Director.

Based in Baltimore, Md., Wiedefeld will help set HDR’s transportation strategy in the region and expand the firm’s service lines throughout the Northeast, which spans 14 states from Virginia to Maine, plus the District of Columbia. Additionally, he will oversee the planning and delivery of major regional initiatives and projects for HDR’s transit, aviation, highways, bridges, freight rail and maritime clients.

Wiedefeld, who has also served as CEO in charge of Baltimore/Washington International airport, is a Board Member of the Washington Airports Task Force, a leader of the Maryland Association of Engineers, and an Advisory Board Member for the Voorhees Transportation Center at Rutgers University.

“HDR is dedicated to providing our clients the highest level of service and quality, and Paul shares that vision,” HDR East Region Transportation Director Eli Khoury said. “Paul’s decades of transportation experience and deep knowledge of the needs of our clients will serve them well as we tackle the infrastructure challenges of tomorrow and transform our communities for the better.”

Chris Dillon is the new Vice President, Government Affairs at NCRR, a private corporation whose stock is owned by the state of North Carolina, and which manages the use of 317 miles of track stretching from Charlotte to the Port of Morehead City. A 22-year North Carolina public-sector veteran, he served most recently as Senior Assistant County Manager for Wake County, supervising the transportation, economic development, workforce development and elections teams. Dillon has also held the position of Director of Governmental Affairs for the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission.

“We are excited that Chris is joining the NCRR team,” NCRR President and CEO Carl Warren said. “He brings a wealth of experience ranging from transportation, economic development and government relations, and his expertise will play a significant role with developing partnerships within our local communities.”
