CSX recently revealed its latest heritage locomotive—a tribute to the Atlantic Coast Line—fresh out of the Class I railroad’s paint shop in Waycross, Ga.

“We had a pause in new heritage locomotives as we worked on other projects (like the CSX Holiday Express Cars, which just hit the rails this week and the new CSX Santa Train car),” stated President and CEO Joe Hinrichs in a LinkedIn post. “Several more exciting heritage locomotives [are] to come in the near future,” he added.

The locomotive, CSX No. 1871, is the seventh in a series of heritage locomotives to roll out of the shop as a “way of reinforcing employee pride in the history of the railroad” and sharing it with the public.

CSX previously unveiled units commemorating Louisville & Nashville (L&N), Baltimore & Ohio (B&O), Chesapeake & Ohio (C&O), Conrail, Chessie System and Seaboard System. The Atlantic Coast Line unit will join the other commemorative units in revenue service on CSX’s 20,000-mile rail network.

In related news, CSX’s 81st Santa Train rolled through Appalachia on Nov. 18 delivering holiday and school supplies, toys and good cheer to its neighbors along the route.

“Thank you to our partners and the #ONECSX team who came together to help bring joy and festive offerings to communities across Tennessee, Kentucky and Virginia,” CSX wrote in a LinkedIn post on Nov. 28.
