For STG Logistics, A Growing Intermodal Network

Illinois-based STG Logistics will expand its intermodal network by providing service into and out of the Canadian markets of Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Moncton and Halifax, the company reported Aug. 23. It already serves Toronto and Montreal.
The “port-to-door” services provider said it will use its fleet of 15,000 GPS-equipped 53-foot intermodal containers and proprietary Rail Optimizer system to move shipments both intra-Canada and cross-border. Mexico routes, it said, will use the Falcon Premium interline intermodal service that Union Pacific (UP), CN and GMXT (Grupo Mexico Transportes, comprising Ferromex, Ferrosur and IMEX) recently introduced for automotive parts, food, FAK (freight all kinds), home appliances and temperature-controlled products, as well as Eagle Premium intermodal service from UP and Ferromex. Falcon Premium connects all CN origin points within Canada, and at Detroit, to UP at two locations via CN’s former Elgin, Joliet & Eastern Chicago bypass, then to GMXT Mexican terminals at Monterrey and Silao, through UP’s border crossing at Eagle Pass, Tex. (Piedras Negras, Mexico). Eagle Premium provides service between Chicago and Monterrey, with expanded service from Monterrey to Los Angeles, Lathrop and Seattle; UP and Ferromex recently introduced expanded service from Silao to Chicago and Memphis.

STG Logistics offers intermodal, drayage, deferred LTL, container deconsolidation, reconsolidation, transloading, warehousing, and over-the-Road services, as well as outsourced transportation services, including final mile. It is said to have a facility network comprising more than 100 locations, including all major port locations. According to STG Logistics, it is “a key partner for third-party logistics providers as well as leaders in the food and beverage, consumer electronics, engineered products, home fashion, retail, and other verticals.”
