The Indiana Rail Road (INRD) is continuing its sustainability initiatives with a rooftop solar project at headquarters, which is expected to contribute “almost half of the energy needed” there.

INRDRailway Age’s 2012 and 2018 Regional Railroad of the Year—reported that the solar array installation in Indianapolis, Ind., is now complete.

“Not only will the solar panels improve the carbon footprint of the facility, they offer financial benefits,” said Dewayne Swindall, who was appointed INRD President and CEO last month.

The 250-mile regional reported that other sustainability initiatives already in place include an LED lighting retrofitting program, investment in fuel efficiency technologies, and a “commitment to reducing the environmental footprint of operations.”
