RSI urges action on big-truck threat

Written by Douglas John Bowen

The Railway Supply Institute said Friday that the “House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee is set to vote on SAFETEA-LU reauthorization legislation as early as next Thursday, February 2, and that vote could sanction “an increase in truck size and weights at state option as well as allow longer combination vehicles nationwide.”

RSI notes the “size and weight increases will be tied to a fee increase; it is expected to be a $0.20 per gallon increase in the truck diesel tax. The bill is then expected to be on the House Floor for a vote as early as the week of February 13th.

RSI stresses, “This is a very serious threat.  Please help our Capitol Hill outreach efforts by calling your local Congressmen and Senators urging them to oppose any bill or amendments  that allows for an increase in truck size and weight regulations.  AAR and CABT have also alerted their grass tops and are making plans to utilize the media, so this is an industry wide collaboration
