Railroad Day on Capitol Hill nears

Registration is now open for this year’s Railroad Day on Capitol Hill, set for Thursday, March 8. Attendance is open to all Class I, II, and III railroad personnel, shippers, state and local government representatives, as well as members from the supplier community with an interest in furthering the political goals of the railroad industry.

Additionally, in response to requests, a student registration category has been added for middle and high school students (ages 12-18) who wish to attend with a parent. Railroad Day provides young people with an excellent opportunity to gain first-hand knowledge about our legislative system. There is also a reduced student registration fee for the Annual Legislative Reception & Dinner.


Registration is free, but does not include the Thursday evening reception or the dinner. Registration for the Annual Legislative Reception and Dinner is $225 and helps us to pay for special dinner guests. Those planning to attend are urged to register as early as possible, and no later than Feb. 15, “so we can schedule you on [Capitol H]ill visits. It is much easier to request meetings and put the schedule together when we know well in advance who is going to be there,” notes the American Short Line & Regional Railroad Association (ASLRRA), a primary player in the event.

ASLRRA also says, “Railroad Day on Capitol Hill is not an easy day. Participants receive their list of appointments during an early morning briefing on the issues, then move through a full day of meetings with Representatives, Senators, and their staff. Some meetings are very successful, some are not. But together they create an impression and help build the momentum our professional representatives need to secure Congressional action on the issues that are most important to the health and prosperity of our businesses. A successful Railroad Day on Capitol Hill will build the foundation we need to extend the 45G railroad tax credit, preserve balanced regulation, and to bring about a more balanced transportation infrastructure spending policy.”
