MARTA OKs LRT plan, tax approval pending

Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority's Board of Directors on Monday voted to advance its $3.5 billion rail expansion plan, still subject to approval by voter referendum this July.

The MARTA approval includes the go-ahead for the Clifton Corridor light rail line from MARTA’s Lindbergh Center Station to Avondale Station.

MARTA also approved plans to obtain federal funding for extending its existing rapid transit line from Indian Creek Station to the Mall at Stonecrest. The move is seen as a peace offering to southern DeKalb County residents protesting the lack of rail plans for their locale.
