Broward County Transit (BCT) on Nov. 5 announced an upcoming procurement for Project Development and Environmental (PD&E) study and preliminary engineering for a Light Rail Transit (LRT) fixed guideway system.

Preliminarily estimated at $1.25 billion, the new light rail system will connect Broward County-owned Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport, Port Everglades and the Convention Center.

According to BCT, the pre-advertisement is intended to alert potential bidders to this upcoming procurement. The successful consultant will perform the engineering analysis and design documents and develop operating and maintenance costs to support the project’s Financial Plan, sufficient to obtain clearance and potential funding from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA)

“Through BCT’s $4.3 Billion PREMO plan, we have a unique opportunity to connect three major economic engines with fast, reliable and convenient transit service,” said CEO and General Manager Coree Cuff Lonergan. “With this new plan, Broward County will be one the true intermodal transit providers in the country. We encourage firms to review this pre-advertisement and seriously consider proposing on the work.”
