Pittsburgh PAT reaches tentative labor deal

The Pittsburgh-based Port Authority of Allegheny County (PAT) and its biggest union have reached a tentative contract agreement that could avert severe rail and bus transit service cutbacks scheduled for Sept. 2, Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald announced Thursday.

Fitzgerald provided no details of ht pending agreement, however.

“If approved, the agreement is the first step in preventing the 35 percent service cuts, resulting layoffs and Collier Division/park and ride closures scheduled to take effect in September,” Fitzgerald said in a statement.

Members of Local 85, Amalgamated Transit Union, will vote Aug. 19 and the authority board thereafter, it said.
