Pourney named Gross & Janes CEO

Michael L. Pourney has been named President and Chief Executive Officer of St. Louis, Mo.-based Gross & Janes Co., the largest independent supplier and shipper of untreated railroad ties in North America. His appointment is effective immediately.

michael-pourney.jpgPourney will lead the company’s implementation of new strategic growth initiatives that compliment Gross & Jane’s base operations. “Our company is the industry leader in research and development of environmentally safe processes to treat railroad ties,” said John F. Brown, chairman of the board of Gross & Janes and Managing Director at Bush O’Donnell Investment Advisors, Inc. “Mike’s strong combination of financial management and executive leadership skills will help Gross & Janes grow and evolve along with the North American railroad industry we have served for the past 90 years.”

For the past ten years, Pourney served as CEO of several manufacturing and professional services companies in the St. Louis area. He is a Certified Public Accountant.

Founded in 1920, privately held Gross & Janes has processing facilities in Missouri, Arkansa,s and Texas, and purchases raw wood materials from more than 175 independent sawmills in ten states. In 2010 Gross & Janes shipped more than two million railroad crossties to the railroad industry for track maintenance and new track construction, and generated more than $60 million in revenue during 2010.
