For North Texas, ticket vending compatibility

Written by William C. Vantuono, Editor-in-Chief

Denton County Transportation Authority (DCTA) ticket vending machines will be the same as those of Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) and Trinity Railway Express (TRE) regional rail service, DCTA said Thursday. DCTA’s Board of Directors approved the purchase of 11 GFI Genfare Vendstar III Ticket Vending Machines for the sale and validation of passes at its passenger rail stations.

This project has been a priority of DCTA since the Authority’s adoption of its Service Plan in 2003.

Denton County’s A-train service will use diesel multiple-unit (DMU) equipment, while DART operates electric light rail transit service. Separate tracks will be used in the overlap zone for the differing equipment.

“DCTA’s desire to provide fare media to its passengers that is compatible with the other transit authorities in the region, along with a desire to take advantage of economies of scale, has led to an opportunity to jointly procure equipment with Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART),” said DCTA Vice President of Rail Development and Capital Projects Tom LeBeau.

The vending machines will dispense tickets for one-way trips, and day, week and month passes for both rail and bus service. Tickets for both local and regional transit services will be available.
