The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) announced July 13 via a Twitter post that Kathy Fox has been reappointed as Chair, effective Aug. 21, for the next year as the process to find her successor continues.

Fox was first appointed as a Member of TSB in July 2007. She was appointed Chair on August 21, 2014, and reappointed on August 21, 2018. A message in the TSB’s annual report, published on May 29, 2023, indicated Fox’s intention to retire, with her stating the following:

“My second term as Chair will come to an end this August and I have announced my intention to retire. It has been an honor to serve as the Chair of the TSB and I am proud of the progress the TSB has made as a world-leading safety investigation organization that influences change. Regardless of who serves on the Board in the future, the mandate and focus of the TSB’s work to advance transportation safety will not change, and nor will the dedication and professionalism of our staff.”

The job description and application for the position of TSB Chair can be found here. Applications will be reviewed by Sept. 1, 2023.
